About the Workshop
Architecture Summer Career Workshop is an intensive four-week in-residence experience designed for high school students who are considering architecture as a course of study and an in-depth view of the study of and career in architecture through hands-on experiences in studio exercises, projects and field trips. Activities cover design fundamentals (such as introducing light and shadow, space and sequence, texture, materiality and climate) as well as computer applications, structural engineering, and site and community planning.
No previous experience with architecture, drafting or art is necessary.
Exercises are lead by the Program Director, faculty of the College, and professional guests.

Architecture Summer Career Workshop 2025

Registration Fees
Registration includes all costs associated with the program, with the exception of a small kit of supplies students are asked to purchase in advance of the workshop, spending money for snacking, and a few meals on the student's own, such as during Thursday night at farmer's market. Students are led by Cal Poly faculty and guided by recent graduates working in individual studios with about 15 students in each class. The workshop runs Monday-Friday as well as on Saturdays, giving students hands-on exposure to architecture education and related fields in conjunction with developing a portfolio of work.
The Architecture Summer Career Workshop is pleased two offer two registration options for students in 2025.
Residential Experience $7,200
The Residential Experience includes:
- All Materials necessary for Workshop Activities (not including the small kit of supplies)
- On-Campus Housing in Dorms (linens provided for an additional $25, or supply your own)
- Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Supervision by CAED student Resident Advisors
- Coordinated socials and activities
Commuter Experience $3,600
The Commuter Experience includes:
- All Materials necessary for Workshop Activities (not including the small kit of supplies)
- Lunch Daily
- Dinner each Tuesday
- Coordinated socials and activities
Students who select the Commuter Experience will be required to purchase a weekly parking permit if they will be driving to campus, and no overnight housing is provided.
Payment Options
A payment of at least 50% is required at the time of registration to guarantee a spot in the workshop. Subsequent payments may be made by logging into your account. (See the How to Register tab for details)
Full payment must be completed no later than May 15, 2025 or the registration may be disqualified and any amount paid will not be eligible for a refund.
